Ever since Google fonts became widely available, my teen designer has enjoyed designing so much more. I shared 20 free fonts from Designer Blog a month or so ago, and when you add Google fonts to the mix, bloggers have virtually no excuse when it comes to personalizing their blogs. You must use typefaces that match your personality, style, and flair.
However, your font choice should also go with your ideal market view.
For example, my daughter is currently designing a site for a college educational counselor and consultant—the target markets demands tradition. They will want the feeling of security, readability, and steady long-term support. Nothing modern or hip. Nothing too new, because new doesn’t translate to stability in their minds. So for that site, we’re sticking with more traditional, Time New Romantic forms without using Times New Roman.
So while there are over 400 free fonts available through Google, you should still capitalize on your style and theme with your font choices.
Now, Google fonts are open-source—that means you can use them anywhere you want, however you want, without paying a dime—but as Designer Blogs points out, there’s one more problem for blog design: along with matching your ideal market view, your choice of fonts should work well together.
That’s where the awesome people at FastPrint come in. They’ve put together an infographic of the twenty most popular Google fonts and how compatible they are with each other. Check it out:
Neat, huh?
Do you have a favorite Google font? How does it match up?
